Characteristics and requirements of sports turf surfaces
The aim of this course is to: describe how the natural environment is modified for sports turf use, and assess a site for suitability for a selected sports turf use; describe the visual and functional quality of turf; identify the playing quality characteristics of major sports turf surfaces; and relate the rules of major sports to the surface preparation requirements.

Desirable and non-desirable turf plants for sport
The aim of this course is to: introduce common turf plants, the identifying features of turf plants, desirable turf species and undesirable turf species (grasses and weeds), and how the growth and development of turf plants can best create the ideal turf surface for each sport.

This course explains the factors that contribute to healthy plant growth and teaches how to identify the different grass and other plant species commonly used for sports turf. Students will learn how different species need slightly different environmental conditions to grow best, and how to provide those conditions through good turf management. Weed identification, the conditions that support weed growth and spread, and how to manage these are also covered.

Mow Sports Turf
Mowing is the single most effective and frequently-used tool used to produce the quality of it. Topics include: how good mowing contributes to dense, healthy turf; using the right equipment for the job; mowing techniques and error avoidance.

Nutrients and Fertilisers for Sports Turf
Nutrients covers the effects of different nutrients on plant growth; reasons for nutrient availability and loss; how to understand the amounts of nutrients required by turf; chemical and physical fertiliser properties; and how to apply fertilisers safely and effectively.

Sports Turf Pests, Diseases and Disorders
Pests, diseases and disorders is about identifying, avoiding and controlling pests, diseases and disorders effectively, including ways of monitoring various pests and identifying appropriate damage thresholds. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is the recommended approach to avoid unnecessary agrichemical use by reducing the likelihood of occurrence through proactive turf management and rethinking thresholds based on actual damage.

Apply Agrichemicals to Sports Turf
Agrichemicals provide the knowledge and skills to apply agrichemicals safely and effectively in its context. This module includes how to interpret agrichemical classifications and information; understand the effect of agrichemicals in the environment; how insecticides, fungicides, and herbicides work; the factors that affect spray effectiveness; and applying agrichemicals.

Sports Turf Irrigation
This module provides knowledge of a variety of it irrigation systems and irrigation water sources, plus an understanding of plant needs for water and how to provide appropriate water for growth, avoiding overwatering, by evaluating an irrigation programme and its results.
